    hi everyone

i got asus cdrw 52x24x52a and got a problem with it

yesterday i tried to burn some files, but while i'm using nero it gave me error messages that said something like fail to activate something...., eventhough i've used it couple of times before and it worked fine
then i tried to update the firmware from their web, now i'm using firmware 1.4

After i install new firmware, my cd rom just stop working anymore, it doesn't even read a cd. After i put in a cd ,some green light lights up and that it.

in control panel , it says device is working properly
my setting in bios is pio 0 ( the choices are diable ,0 to 4)
and diable ultra dma ( the choices are diable ,0 to 4)

    i'm using xp home edition
anybody got any idea on this problem?
    thanks

    Hi,

It would help to know the exact error :)

Are you absolutely positive that you installed the correct firmware for your exact model of drive?

Ive got the same burner on the same firmware revision: try reapplying the update (did you remember to goto PIO mode before updating?)

ALso you might want to uninstall-reinstall the drive :)

    yea i'm sure i got the correct firmware, i even both firmware for asus 52 24 52 a and 52 24 52 u.

when you say uninstall the drive, you mean to get rid of it from the device manager in control panel?
cause i've tried that one then i restart then i scan for new hardware then install the new firmware 1.4 and still doesn't work

At the very fist time i install the new firmware 1.4, my bios setting is pio 4 and dma disabled
