    Hello.
I have a short question for you. I have a friend who wanna buy a video card: ASUS A9550GE/TD/256 ATI Radeon 9550 256Mb DDRAM AGP 8X (128bit) TV-OUT DVI.
He wants to play NFS Most wanted, GTA San Andreas, Fear, etc.
He has now a GF fx5200 and he wants to be sure that this video card (Radeon 9550GE) can handle these games.
So is this card worth the money?

    Thanx a lot.
    Iulian

The CPU is actually just as important as the video card you buy. I got a Gigabyte Radeon X800PRO which retails for $350, and it lags when I play Need For Speed Most Wanted at 1024x768 on all high settings even tho it shouldnt be. Thats because I got a Celeron. If your buddy got a Celeron, tell him to get a Pentium 4 or AMD first and then think about getting a video card.

But even if he has AMD or Pentium 4, he should still invest in a better video card. That Radeon 9550 just won't cut it. At the very least tell him to get an NVIDIA 6600GT which can be found pretty cheap at Newegg.com.

    Thanx all for your answers.
My friend had this system: MB Asus P4P800
    Intel Celeron D 2400
    512 DDR Pqi 400
    80Gb WD
    PalitDaytona FX5200 128ddr/128bit
Now, the problem is this: i had a few monts ago (8-9) a system (my system). It was an Asus MB with a 2.0 Celeron (NOT D), 512 DDR 400 Geil, and 40Samsung hdd and a PalitDaytona GF4 Mx440 64 ddr & 128 bit (i was not using the pc for games). I was playing NFS Underground 2 without any problem (with default settings). But my friend's pc was not. He must set all details at minimum and even so the pc was too slow. So my Celeron 2.0 was working ok, but his Celeron D 2.4 was not.
So i think it must be the Gf Fx 5200, even if he has 128ddr/128bit and i had 64ddr/ 128bit.
Why i think that? because i was reading a lot of bad opinions about this 5200.
    So, what do you think?
I told him about the p4 but now he has money only for one piece (p4 or video card)
    Thanx again for your answers.

Your friend won't be playing any of those games you listed above. Tell him not to get that 9550 because its not any better than the FX5200. His Celeron 2400Mhz is horrible too. He should get a GOOD video card for the time being to play those games on low to low-medium settings, and then definitely get that Pentium 4. AMD is better for gaming, but they produce LOTS of heat, are more expensive then Pentium 4's, and your buddy would need a new motherboard if he got an AMD. Pentium 4 will do the job just fine.

    Hello Ragnarok2,
I was reading your post. In the begining i was thinking you are serious. But when i saw that AMD is heating i was laughting for half an hour. Don't get me wrong. I have an P4 3g @ LGA at home. But saying that AMD produce more heat that Intel it's a stupidity. My P4 3g LGA have around 70 degrees C on NFS or Fear. Yes, AMD was really bad back in the days. But now the situation it's not the same.
Second of all. I think you didn't read my post. I was saying that i had an Celeron 2000 & Gf 4 Mx440 and everything was working ok. He had a better system (Celeron D 2,4 & Fx5200). So i think my Celeron 2.0 was not so bad. I know that Celeron 2.0 or 2.4 are noit for games. But i was playing just fine with my 2.0 & mx440.

Yulyo i have two computers in a network , one of them is a celeron 2.0 with a Gforce 128 and it works fine on medium on the NFSU2 so it is still not that bad but my other computer is a AMD 64 bit 3200+ and it is just works great with the MSI NX6600 256Mb PCI EXPRESS + TV Out + DVI and 2 x DDR RAM 512mb.

Well Yulyo my budy across the street happens to have an AMD Athlon 64. He has it in a full tower ATX case with 6(7 if you count the PSU fan) fans and he still needs to keep the cover off his case because it makes so much freeakin heat. My Celeron on the other hand, stays around 20C when surfing the net, etc. and no more than 28C when playing games. And I was laughing quite a bit myself when I read your P4 is around 70C when playing games. I'd look in to that issue immediately.

If you count the video card fan and PSU fan, then 4. I even have a stock CPU fan.

Ragnarok2 you are talking about two different thinks.
On one hand you are telling me that AMD is heating and on the other hand you are telling me that your CELERON has 28 degrees.
I know, i had a Celeron too. But P4 is different. You shoult try an AMD Athlon 64 with a P4 at the same spped. Then you should talk. I have my P4 build in a Chieftec big tower and is heating. I have an Amd Athlon 64 at home in the same case and it's he is not heating as much as P4. If you look on Tomashardware you will see the difference.
So pls, let's not speak about AMD Athlon 64 vs. Intel Celeron. If you wanna tell me something pls try Athlon 64 vs Intel P4 64, or Semprom vs Celeron. I think it's not fare to compare Athlon with Celeron, as much as comparing Semprom with P4. They are from different categories of performance and price.
Anyway, thank you all for you replies, including you Ragnarok2 :)

No problem Yulyo we could debate this all day, but one thing is clear and thats the fact that your P4 shouldnt be at 70C. If you're comparing your P4 that runs at 70C and telling me that your AMD runs cooler than that is truly idiotic because your Pentium 4 shouldnt be even close to 70C.
