*moved from DVD-R newbies* between those two .. the sony. IMO, you'll have a easier time getting firmware updates. but I would look into the NEC 3540 or 3520 (excellent inexpensive drives). Or look into the Plextor PX 716 ... around the same price as the Sony drive.
Sorry to have bothered you again, Will I need to change my pcs Asus 16x Quie track DVDROM if I plan to install some other brand besides Asus, like Sony, Plextor or NEC? Take care.
No it won't matter. I've got a LiteOn 167T and Plextor in one PC, and a Sony DDU-1612 DVD ROM w/ a NEC 2510 in another pc. You'll be fine. But I would make the burner the master drive and your ROM as the slave.
