have a Asus 6800 -256mb-videocard that seems to be doing irregular things

when i play unreal tourament 2004 or battlefield 2 i get lots of thick solid lines shooting out from everywhere (all coming from certain objects, angles, buildings, sky, vehicals etc?) it blocks my view while playing - and when i turn in certain directions the lines will change, some disappear, and i get new lines from other obects?

but when i play rome- total war it seems to play without any problem with lines shooting out from everywhere??

i have up to date drivers nvidia forceware 71.89
changed and reset graphic options, reinstalled the two games stated above

    is the card faulty ???
are the first person games using something on the videocard for its graphics that rome-TW doesnt use ?

    thanks
