hi there, not sure if this is the right area to post this if not please put it in the correct area. I have a MCP61PM-AM HT200 Motherborad with phoenix award bios version V0.11 i have bought an ATI Radeon HD 4550 PCIE 2.0 card to put into it but when i turn the computer on the screen goes bonkers with colours then goes blank(Black for couple of seconds) then eventual bonkers with a different set of colour - so i cant even see the bios start-up screen unless i unplug the hd 4550 card and use the onboard again. first set of colours - http://s989.photobucket.com/albums/af17/pikehunterone/?action=view¤t=IMG0011A.jpg Second set of colours - http://s989.photobucket.com/albums/af17/pikehunterone/?action=view¤t=IMG0012A.jpg any help would be appreciated Edit: I have fixed the links above steve
moved to correct forum as not an all other topics issue. does the videocard need extra power as in a cord from the psu? is the card seated properly?
no the card just plugs into the pci -E slot ive unplugged and replugged the card into the slot with the same problem - the only thing i can think of at the moment is that the card is not compatible with the mobo or visa versa thanks for the promt reply stevie
Photobucket links do not work (Personally I think photobucket is terrible, use imageshack). However, if you're seeing random colours at the startup screen and your board does actually support cards like the HD4550, then it's probably a faulty card. Try taking it back. If the replacement does the same, then perhaps the board can't accept modern graphics cards, it is very old.
Unfortunately i bought this on ebay and i believe that the returns policy limit has passed, but i will see if a friend has a pci slot on there pc and let you know the results if they do. Steve Edit: sorry i have taken so long, i have just been in contact with my friend and it turns out they couldnt get the card to work, so it is a faulty card. thanks for helpful replies steve
