First let me say that I have searched for the answer to my problem on here and other sites. I have even read the thread, http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/673257

I can find information on torrent files to put online but nothing that I need.

My husband is a movie junkie. He has well over 100 movies. I wanted to backup these movies but did not want to increase my storage space too much. I read up on torrents and downloaded bittorrent to compress my files. I put several movies on a cd (for backup) and attempting to decompress to test. The problem was it would not allow me to decompress the files. The program kept saying that it was downloading and nothing happenned. I allowed it to rest for around an hour just to see what it was going to do and nothing. I do not want to upload these files online, as these are movies that we have purchased. I would just like to back them up in the smallest possible formats. I like the fact that I can take a 700 mb video and compress it with bittorrent and end up with 14 kb. These would allow me to put many movies on one disk and save on the extra storage. But is this possible? Am I just attempting something that is known not to work? Do I have to upload them online in order to get my copy later should my original stop working? I am sorry if there is something already on here about this but I honestly have looked for it. Thanks for the help.

I understand your plan-backup the DVDs, however, the way you approached the subject, you're about 10000 miles away from the right path.

There will be no bittorrent involved.
A bittorrent file (***.torrent) is "the address" used by your bittorrent application to get to and download the video file. In that 14kb there's no video information. It would be nice if a movie could be compressed that much:), you could download an entire Hollywood collection on dial-up in no time!!

Rip the movie to your hard drive with DVDFab(free), and then depending on what format/codec you want to use, you can use AutoGk and convert to an AVI(Divx), or use Handbrake and convert to an MP4/MKV(x.264).

Thanks. No wonder it would not work. But that is how we learn, right? I will try what you said right now. Thanks, again.
