attention out of range??

    im having trouble starting my pc. when i turn it on it shows me the dell screen, then the operating system screen but then the monitor just turns off, it gives me an error message saying attention out of range H:79.8KHz V:75.0KHz.

    im using a dell dimension 2400 and windows xp.

    ive tried google but no luck...can anyone help

    Hi,

    to me this sounds like the monitor is having difficulty displaying the output from the graphics card.

    Have you recently changed the display settings in Windows?

    If you can try and boot into safe mode, and make sure that the graphics card drivers are up to date, and that the settings are correct.

    Failing that, try using a different monitor and boot Windows as usual, then check the display settings there.

    i havent changed any settings but when i went to the computer no programs were working, so i turned it off and since then it aint been working. i can start it in safe mode. what should i do when in safe mode?
