Does anyone know of a program which will boost the audio of an .mpg movie file without having to re-encode the entire file? Seems to be to be a simple task, but have yet to find anything like this. I have TMPGEnc, and know it has a boost option. However, it refuses to encode AC3 audio (which my source's audio is encoded as...) even with the AC3 plug-in. I believe it is a problem with the fact the source is an XviD at 24fps; TMPGEnc seems unable to deal with this. I dont want to encode the entire files twice with two different programs as I have about 72 files to encode, and at ~1hr a file I'd rather not double that. Thanks!
You say mpg, but it sounds a hell of a lot like you are talking about an avi with XviD video and AC3 audio. You can demux the AC3 do whatever you like and remux. No need to change the video. Could also use mencoder to boost the audio and re-encode to AC3, directstream the video and remux in one go. Generally the AC3 is the original DVD audio though and doesn't need boosting. If it isn't loud enough, etc. then it is a playback issue.
Sorry, I guess I should have clairified that. I started out with an XviD avi with AC3 audio. I want to load this on a DVD, so I needed to convert to mpeg. I used TMPGEnc Plus to do this, however no luck; TMPGEnc does not support AC3 audio and I got a nice video with no audio. I tried TMPGEnc XPress with the AC3 plugin, no luck again; TMPGEnc XPress apparently cannot handle XviD avi's that are encoded at 24fps. I then tried MainConcept's Encoder and it worked! But now I realize that the audio on the AC3 encoded files (some of my avi's audio are MPEG-Layer 3, some are AC3) is quite quiet when compared to the audio on the MPEG-Layer 3 encoded files. I dont want to be doubling and halving the volume on my TV depending on which file im playing on the DVD player; I'd like to have the same volume on all files. What I need is basically a program that will re-encode the audio with gain on an mpeg (or avi for that matter) quickly and not result in me having to recombine audio and video streams or sit around while it re-encodes everything. Now I have never tried splitting the streams (demuxing/remuxing), is this a quick process? Thanks for your help!
I've reinstalled K-Lite Codec pack, no change I will give 'fixcodecs' a shot when I get home (at work atm). I believe that it may just be how the AVI's with AC3 were initially encoded (not by me) that is resulting in the low volume. I want to burn these files to a DVD for playback on my TV, so boosting AC3 volume on the PC will only help on the PC, am I right? I may just have to suck it up and try the demuxing method... It just makes me want to cry since I have 72 or so files to do ;( Thanks!
Just reuse the AC3 from the avi when you author. As I said the AC3 would be the original audio from the DVD.
