I bought a 7.1 soundcard and installed it. When I do a check, all the speakers sound off, but when I play music or movies the center and rear speakers never work...does anyone know how to fix this? I currenty have it on the right setting of 5.1, cause I only have 5.1 speakers so its not that.

If the video's audio track isn't recorded in 5.1, then you'll not get 5.1 from the speakers.
It doesn't magically add audio where there is none.

    Have you calibrated the speakers?
Mine did that. Played all speakers in test mode, but not when playing a dvd-a disc or a movie. Once I clicked the "Calibrate" button, and went through the calibration, all the speakers worked fine.

Also, not all software dvd players support 5.1 surround. The ones that do, usually cost extra. Try the 21 day free trial of WinDVD. It supports the surround. Get it here: http://www.intervideo.com/jsp/WinDVD_Profile.jsp

    Good luck! Keep us posted?
