I got a collection of 13 AVI files, each are around 350mb and last for around 45 minutes. When playing them on the PC, they all play fine. When transcoding them to VOB with WinAVI and Nero Vision Express 3, all of them work fine with expection of 4 files. These 4 AVI files work fine until I try and convert. Once I converted them to VOB, the audio gradually becomes out of sync with the video. I think this is because these 4 files have a varible bitrate and virtual dub gives me this message when I open the 4 files However, it gives me the same message even on the AVI video files I know converts fine to VOB. I have no idea how to use Virtual Dub and I would like some help if possible. I read somewhere a while ago which says this I tried this, but the estimated file size for 1 350 AVI file is 46gb and I dont have enough hard drive space for this. Please help!
Usually when the audio and video are out is because the file is corrupted. Anyway what you need to do is also press on the 'compression' button (also under the video heading) then save avi, cause it sounds like you are trying to save an uncompressed file. Select something like XVID for your compression would be good. Not so sure if your audio will be in sync if you do this though. If it works please let me know, its always good to get some feed back.
Ok, I ticked compression this time and it is now a 300mb file. I used the xvid compression and the video file is good quality. However, the audio is really out of sync with the video now, much worse than before...What can I do? I have a collection of 13 AVI files and 10 of them are fine but 3 wont convert in sync. Is there a way I can just make the bitrate of the audio static? so its not variable? Because I think that is the problem.
Try useing the interleving option under Audio. This way you can offset your audio by the amount of m/s you require. Or you could use the method I use when I have problems with sync, and thats by using Tmpgenc and correct the audio there. If the audio is out the same amount throughout the file, it is fairly straight forward to do. If it gets progressivly worse then it is much harder (i've never tried it) Hope this helps in some way.
Well I have tried something yesterday and it looks like this will work... I opened one of the bad AVI files with TMPGEnc and converted it to MPEG. The audio and video were in sync like they should be. The problem with the AVI file is, when I convert to VOB, the audio becomes out of sync with the video. However, with the converted MPEG file I made with TMPGEnc, converting this to VOB made the audio and video in perfect sync. So the rule here is.. if you got a video file that plays fine but then becomes out of sync when converting to VOB. All you have to do is convert it to MPEG first and then convert it to VOB.
