I am experiencing some strange problems after connecting my PC to a Panisonic DVR-ES30V DVD recorder in order to play Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas on my TV. I connected the PC to the DVD Recorder via the S-Video and a RCA jack w/ a head phone adapter / splitter. Ever since I connected the PC to the DVD recorder, the PC has been producing stuttery audio at times along with framerate drops on the video card. This is a $399 video card I am talking about (ATI Raedon X800 Pro PCI). I am using onboard sound with a Chaintech 7NJL1 Apogee mainboard.

My CPU is an Athelon XP 2100+, and I have 1 GB of RAM. Never noticed any audio / video hiccups like this before

Did I short something out? What can I do to fix this issue if I am lucky and did not fry anything?

I had a similar a problem long ago on a SEGA Genesis believe it or not. It is possible that by mistake you plugged the sound cards audio out to the DVD audio out. If so then you would have heard no sound. increasing the volume on the DVD to get sound would then damage the sound card. This is my best guess on what may have happened. If everything was hooked up the way it should have been then I don't know.

I figured it out this morning. I had to shutdown the computer and press the power button a few times after the switch on the PSU was on the 0 posisition. Guess some excess charge may have built up - I'm lucky I didn't mess anything up that I couldn't fix.
