I have Nero 7.2.3.2b installed and have had no problems with it (have burned about 7 dvds so far) but I tried to put 7 episdoes of Robot Chicken on a disc, and burned it. When I played my dvd though the audio sync was WAY off...like 5 or 6 seconds off, on every episode. I really dont know why because when I open the Robot Chicken files with windows media player (for example) it plays perfectly. Also when you get to the preview screen right before the final burn screen and try to play them the audio is off as well. Any ideas?

This seems to be one of the inherent problems in converting AVI/DivX to DVD.

    Two things:

Post the NeroHistory log section for the burn. It's located in this path and be sure to delete the serial number before posting:

    Program Files > Nero > Nero7 > Core > NeroHistory

There are other programs and sometimes just using another program solves the problem; Among the others are the following:

    VSO's ConvertXtoDVD: http://www.vso-software.fr/products/convert_x_to_dvd/
    DVD Copy 4 Platinum: http://www.intervideo.com/jsp/InterVideoDVDCopy_Profile.jsp
    TMPGEnc Express 3: http://tmpgenc.pegasys-inc.com/en/product/te3xp.html
    DVD Santa: http://www.dvdsanta.com/
    The Film Machine: http://members.home.nl/thefilmmachine/

All are free or have free trials. DVD Santa and ConvertX watermark their trial program output however.

I don't see anything glaringly out of place in the log. The firmware is up to date and Ritek media is fairly decent. My burners aren't as happy with Ritek as some other manufacturers' media though.

    Here are some suggestions:

    - Try burning at 4X instead of 8X.

    - Try a different brand of media like Verbatim.

    - Instead of burning with Nero, have Nero output an ISO image file and burn that with DVD Decrypter or ImgBurn at 4X. A slower speed sometimes provides a better quality burn.

    - Some have better luck using Nero version 7.0.8.2. It can be downloaded here: http://www.filehippo.com/download_nero_7_premium/?845

    - Try one of the other conversion programs listed above.

But see it CANT be a problem with the burn speed because its happening before that. You see even when I open the Robot Chicken videos with Nero Showtime just to watch them the audio is already off. Same when I open them with the "create chapters" button..already 4 or 5 seconds off. However when I open them with divx, or Windows Media Player the audio is perfectly synched. Thats why I know its a Nero problem. I dont think its simply because these are television shows either (as was suggested in another thread) because I burned 5 discs of the old Dungeons and Dragons episodes with NO prob.

I guess I just may have to find another program but you know, NERO just really burns me up! I pay for a program, it does NOT work, and 4 updates later it STILL wont work. Nero needs to start giving partial refunds or something at this point. Selling malfunctioning software is borderline fraud in my opinion.

Definitely try one of the other programs. I'd start with ConvertX or DVDSanta first. ConvertX is very popular around these parts.

I guess you noticed the DMA on the Burner went from on to off. I suppose that happened because there was a communication problem with the Burner and Windows changed it, unless you did.

Have you tried making the Burner master and the DVD-ROM slave?

This last part of the log concerns me, none of the drivers are being recognized.

So that I could comment on 7.2.3.2b, I tried it to burn 3 AVI flies which I had successfully burned using version 7.0.8.2, sadly each burn was unsatisfactory so I reverted to 7.0.8.2, tried them again with success…my conclusion..7.2.3.2b was a failure when it comes to burn AVI files.

I did the following, uninstalled 7.2.3.2b, ran this clean tool
http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Nero7_CleanTool.html and then installed 7.0.8.2 from here

Audio Sync seems to be the #1 problem with all AVI to DVD convertions, There is a pattern to look for.
    (1) if the a/v sync is out from beginning to end...from the first frame to last....Dollars to Donuts it's due to framerate conversion!
and this is the easier problem to fix.
    (2) if it starts in sync then goes out of sync...you've had a glitch somewhere in the file..a dropped frame or two( this is probably the case) you can use VirtualDub to fix this.

If 1. is the case First use GSpot and examine the codecs used in the original file and the framerate of that file you can determine if you're dealing with a file which Nero had to convert framerate on( Nero isn't the most advanced MPEG encoder on the block but it has an Mpeg encoder built in(has to otherwise you couldn't go from AVI to .VOB, if the .avi file needed 2:3 pulldown or other advanced techniques..I believe that's where Nero drops the ball, Now back to the fix :then Demux with VirtualDubMod...then use BeSweet on the audio file...then Use a better authoring program like TMPG. Yes, it's alot of work but You'll be 1000 times happier and prouder..that You Made that DVD and fixed that problem!

Sounds very complicated buy I WILL give it a try (like you I love that feeling too when you overcome a hard problem rather than giving up), plus you learn a lot in the process. Thanks for the advice :)

ConvertXtoDVD will correct your audio sync problems. Here's a link to the program: http://www.vso-software.fr/products/convert_x_to_dvd/

The demo version will put a watermark on the output, but you'll at least be able to see if it works for you before you commit to it.

    Good Luck!
