How do I fix Audio/Video Sync problems in a divx movie using virtual dub...or any other program that will work? (I have virtual dub)

Virtualdubmod is a better program to use in these kinds of cases.

Does the audio go out of synch gradually? For example its in synch in the beginning but later the audio starts to go faster or slower than the video. Or is the audio desynched for the same period of time throughout the movie?

If audio desynch is gradual, the easiest method is to use a program called avifixed to correct the problem. Remember to make a backup of the movie before using avifixed since avifixed sometimes outputs unplayable files.
    http://www.divx-digest.com/software/avifix.html

Example: Audio is 4 seconds late throughout the movie.

You can fix this with virtualdubmod.
    http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/virtualdubmod/VirtualDubMod_1_5_4_1_All_inclusive.zip?download

    Load movie in virtualdubmod.

Go to streams menu, click stream list.

Right click audio file and select Intereleaving.

Fix audio by changing values under audio skew correction.

We are working with milliseconds here so
    1000ms =1 second.
    Audio desynch is 4 seconds so 4 x 1000 =4000

    Enter 4000.

Remember: if the audio is playing too late use negative values.

if audio is playing too early use positive.

Go into video menu and select Direct Stream Copy.

    Save AVI.

The sync is the same throughout the whole movie. It is about 1-2 seconds behind the video.
