I need to author a DVD from an MKV file. There's no problem in opening with VLC, but I can't seem to open it from anything else. The audio may need some volume increase too, so I wonder what to open this file with in order to get a wav file. I couldn't open it with VirtualDubMod.
Try and open the file with 'Avidemux' On the left side of the screen, under 'Audio', change the setting from 'Copy' to 'WAV PCM'. On the top menu, click 'Audio' => 'Save' Give the file a new name, including extension;E.G. audio.wav http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_tools/avidemux.cfm
OK. That takes care of the audio file. But what about the video file? This file is about 4.7GB, so there's probably a complete DVD inside. MKV files are said to be very practical because you can put subtitles in the file too. How do I open all the files inside? BTW: I could open the MKV file with ConvertXtoDVD, but what I had then were DVD files (assembled by ConvertX, not the original ones). Then I could extract an MPEG file and so on. But even that file could not be converted by programs like Procoder. Only TMPGEnc 4.0 Express could read it. In any case it was important that I did all this, because the original audio was very low, and when I increased the volume (with TMPGEnc) I found out that the audio is out of sync with the video. Now I am looking for a way to delay or advance the audio, but I don't know how. Any suggestions?
Mkvtoolnix plus the GUI, MKVextractGUI will extract all the streams. MKVmerge (part of Mkvtoolnix) can remux them. http://www.videohelp.com/tools/MKVExtractGUI
