    Hi,
I have an AV500 30 GB which has been working perfectly for many months. Then I manually deleted the stored media files in order to resynch with a new Windows Media Player library. Then I had real problems. In the system setup, I have the hard drive mode selected. It shows up in My Computer (I'm running XP) as "Removable Disk L:. I cannot synchronise anything. When I double click on this I get the message "The disk in drive L is not formatted: do you want to format it now?". I clicked on "Yes" and the progress bar showed it was progressing nicely with the format. After 20 minutes or so, it reached the end then stated that the "format had failed". I've tried this several times with the same result. When I switch the settings in the AV500 to "Windows Device", the device is not recognised in My Computer. Acccording to the System data, the AV500 is formatted, and I can create new folders manually on it with ease. So it's formatted. the question is, why doesn't My Computer recognise it as a properly formatted drive? It's driving me nuts. Any ideas?
    Thanks
PS: at this rate I'll remove the hard drive and reformat it myself (last resort, nothing to lose, except £300)

What file system does your box use and what file system did you format it with? Not sure what most PVR's use but I doubt its NTFS.

It uses FAT32 - I tried to reformat using this standard. Good thought though.
