I've got over 3500+ on my original benq 1620 and she's still holding strong. I don't rip with my burners,I use dvd-rom drives or lower quality dvd-rw drives. Ripping puts the heaviest burden on a drive. Keeping all discs clean also helps extend the life of them. All discs/original discs/or just backup discs? What firmware version is in your Dru-810? What's the brand name/format/and speed rate of your blank media? Use Nero infotool for the MID code/s. Did you switch anything with your media between when you started having issues? Different brand, quantity, format,or different pkg size? If so,compare those MID codes of good backups, and these so called coasters. How fast you trying to burn them? Can you post a nero burn log,and leave out the serial number-starting like 1A23-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx? Possible causes, before ruling out your drive gone bad: 1) Low quality media/burning too fast 2) Bad batch of media/poor quality media. Drives can run into some media that gives them trouble, and even certain MID codes. Make sure your burner's firmware is up to date.Make sure you use quality media. If the disc fails during the lead-in phase,it'll kick out as an illegal disc. That's a firmware issue. 3) Drive may be lost- go through device manager, unistall drivers, reboot. XP should hook it back up. 4) DMA's are off, meaning your stuck in PIO mode. Burn log will reveal that.Device manager,ata-IDE/atapi controllers need uninstalled and re-booted if any of the primary and secondary controllers say pio mode. 5) Burn engine. Nero can be flaky at times. Usually an uninstall, run nero cleantool 6,reload it and leave out the INCD packets. Here's cleantool 6: http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/us/Nero_6_CleanTool.html 6) Software conflicts, with nero and roxio. Clashing of the INCD for nero and the Drag to Disc with Roxio. 7) Virus, malware
