I have AVG free edition installed on my windows xp comp, when I open Outlook express, the AVG email scanner tries to connect to my pop3 server, and then times out. This stops me from being able to check / send messages. I can disable the "check incoming and outgoing" messages in the email options of AVG, but then I get warning baloons all the time. If I disable the email options, then enter outlook, log on, check messages, and then reapply email scanning, it will work fine. Any suggestions as to why AVG is doing this, and how I can stop it?
I have been using AVG free on my XP system and have not experienced any problems. Try opening your Control Center and see if any of the boxes are Red - they need attention if they are. Try Checking for Updates to see if it helps. Try completely uninstalling AVG and then re-install the whole thing. Check for updates frequently. AVG free is normally a good, reliable program and is on the Microsoft list of antivirus partners. You could try emailing AVG to see if they will respond.
Yep, thats the issue, Zone alarm + AVG Mail scanner = problem. Same for Zone Alarm + Avast & a few more, to work around it turn off, open AVG control centre, select AVG Mail scanner and click properties, disable plug in. As long as ZA's E Mail protection is on your fine.
