Hello, I'm trying to make a dvd that will play on my dvd player from an avi file i have. I've read and tried the "avi to dvd using avitodvd" guide. It created .iso files and i burned them with dvd decrypter. the disc works fine on my pc but it wont work on my stand alone player. So could anyone please give me some tips on how to do this the correct way? Incase it helps, I ran avicodec and this is the info it gives me. File : 694 MB (694 MB), duration: 1:36:50, type: AVI, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 46 % Video : 612 MB, 884 Kbps, 25.0 fps, 560*240 (2.21:1), XVID = XVID Mpeg-4, Supported Audio : 81 MB, 118 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = MPEG Layer-3, Supported Thanks for any help offered. FALSE
sounds like you have done everything correct, it may just be the dvd player doesnt like the type of disk you have. if you have a different brand, try them better still,if you have some dvd+r type disk, and your burner supports booktyping, try booktyping the disk to dvd-rom (dvd decrypter does this, check the little book type emblem on the bottom right hand side)
The dvd player not liking my disc is a negative.... I've backed up many movies that I own on the same discs and I have had no problems. This is just an avi that i dl'ed (non copyrighted of course) and I'd like to be able to play it on my stand alone player. As for booktyping.... I have no idea what your talking about.... please explain further.... Thanks FALSE
ok,if you have used these disks before, and they worked,it may be the region the file is PAL (25fps),...are you NTSC by any chance? if so,you may need to force NTSC i use convertXtodvd to convert my avi's [bold]and this has the option of forcing NTSC[/bold] SETTINGS/TV FORMAT/VIDEO STANDARD/NTSC i dont know whether avi2dvd has that option? on a sub note about booktyping> you can only booktype dvd+r type disks to dvd-rom,and by doing this makes the disks much more compatible on dvd players than the format of dvd-r or dvd+r
Well I tried convertxtodvd and burned using decrypter. Still no luck with playing it on a stand alone player : ( Here's what avicodec says after I used convertxtodvd..... File : 1023 MB (1.59 GB), duration: 0:26:54, type: MPG, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 83 % Video : 1.56 GB, 8308 Kbps, 29.970 fps, 720*480 (4:3), MPG2 = MPEG 2 (SVCD/DVD), Supported Audio : 36 MB, 192 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x2000 = AC3 DVM [0x80], Supported So it looks like it converted to NTSC fine but it still wont play. What gives???? FALSE
Well I tried again with covertxtodvd but this time I let xtodvd burn the disc. It worked great!!!! Thanks for the help. FALSE
I use "AVS Converter 4" from AVSMEDIA. In fact I bought there whole package. Video editor and converter. Not to expensive. The converter allows you to convert even VOB files from Pal to NTSC/NTSC to PAL. You can also edit the file prior to conerting as well as making adjustments to contras, brightness etc. It will even merge a bunch of AVI files into one MPG output file. You select the quality. This converter appears to be onestop shopping. I then use TMPGENC DVD author to create the DVD from the MPG files. You can download a trial from www.avsmedia.com but don't burn the output as it has a watermark inbedded in the output. The editor allows you to create video of stills and movie files combined with transitions and back ground music.
