I am trying to convert avi files to dvd for burning. I have used winavi to convert the files to VOB files and it created them successfully. I then tried to burn with nero and I get the message that nero and xp have compatibility issues. I then tried using DVD santa 4 to convert then burn the avi files and even though the VOB files look ok the final DVD does not work on any stand alone DVD player. We have been trying to burn DVDs unsuccessfully for a long time now. For a while we had success with WINME as long as the final DVD wasnt over 2gb it played fine. We updated WINME to WINXP as it was suggested it was that that was causing the problems. Since upgrading to WINXP we havent had any success in playing any burned DVD on the stand alone players at all. Any one have an ideas why DVDs wont play even though the VOB files look fine and the burn process created DVD successfully. We are using lowest burn speed and the blank DVDs are the same ones we created the successful DVD before. We dont want to have to make every DVD under 2GB to solve the problem. Please help before we go mad trying.

To put the long story short, 'compatibility' is the key. In my experience, the following would affect the results:
    1) transcoding program
    2) burning program
    3) media
    4) standalone DVD player
In your situation, may I suggest:
    1) try use a different but yet reliable program for the transcoding: e.g. VSO DivxToDVD (a free program)
    2) burn with Nero rather than DVDSanta (I have found Nero to be less flexible yet more reliable)
    3) try use better media, and try use RW for tests.
    Good luck!
