I am trying to convert downloaded avi files to dvd. Tried with Avi2Dvd and VSO DivXtoDvd, both programs freeze. Running WinXP SP2, plenty of RAM and HD space, Pentium 4 processor. Any advice would be appreciated.

Downloaded videos often contain errors. You may try correct them with e.g. AviFixed before encoding:

But be sure to back up the original videos first 'cos the process might sometimes back fire.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. I tried that and the Avifix program froze. In Windows Task Manager it tells me that each of these programs are not responding. I think it is something to do with Windows Explorer settings. Has anyone found a fix for this?
