My question is can I take them both and some how extract the video from one and the audio from the other and join them together in one avi file and if so what programs do I need to do this??? Please help I am a Newbie to this
If the running times are identical, the you can use VirtualDub. Download VirtualDub (there is no installation - it runs out of it's own folder). Download and install the Lame MP3 codec (it can be uninstalled if required). To get the good audio from the AVI: Run VirtualDub, load or drag the file with the good audio onto the window. 'Audio' 'Full Processing Mode' 'Compression' 'No Compression PCM' 'OK' 'File' 'Save WAV' - this saves the audio as an uncompressed WAV file. Load or drag the good video file onto the window. 'Audio' 'Audio from another file' (locate and load the WAV file)'Full Processing Mode' 'Compression' 'Lame mp3' and if the choice is offered, select 48000,128,cbr, stereo 'OK'. 'Video' 'Direct Stream Copy'. 'File' 'Save as AVI'. You should have a new AVI with a good audio stream. Good luck. Try altering the length with 'Audacity'. Drag both wav files onto the window. Highlight either stream and note the running time (bottom of screen). Highlight the stream to change and select the 'Tempo' Effect. Enter the new length, cut the unwanted stream and save the adjusted stream. Load into Virtualdub. Look for last stable version. http://www.afterdawn.com/software/audio_software/audio_tools/audacity.cfm
