Alright here is my deal. I have many .avi files that I would like to make into dvds. I have tried various methods WINavi covertor, avi2dvd, and vso. I can make the dvd just fine however, the picture is choppy. The audio is fine. Now here is where my question is. If I play the .avi file using VLC it plays FLAWLESSLY, if I play it in Windows Media Player it is choppy EXACTLY like all of my converts from avi to dvd. So why is VLC perfect and WMP choppy? If my dvds come out exactly like they play in WMP then is there some way I can get the programs to use VLC instead of WMP when making the DVDs? I hope you guys understand the question. I just don't get why vlc plays the .avi files so well and WMP doesn't, and also why all my dvds come out choppy. Any help is appreciated.
I thought that VSO's DivX2DVD used libavcodec/format for input? If os then you basically already have the same decoders, etc. that VLC uses.
If the movie is compressed after reencoding to dvd, you're going to lose some picture quality. Check the settings in your conversion software to encode with high quality or better.
Thanks for the input guys, I just still can't figure it out. I tried different codecs, but WMP still plays choppy as do the dvds that come out. Most of these are hdtv.avi files but still I don't understand why VLC plays them so nicely and WMP so crappy. Is there a way maybe I could take WMP off of my computer to force the dvd convertor programs to use VLC? I am just guessing here.
