i was just wondering if you actually NEED to re-encode AVI files before you burn them to a DVD (for use on a normal DVD player). i was only wondering because in the software that came with my DVD-R/RAM drive, "Instant CD/DVD v6.5 professional version", there is an option in the video mode which says something like, create project and leave files as they are. this would save so much time, cos i heard that it takes like 24 hours to convert a normal avi movie to DVD?????? any ideas, or help on how to get avi to DVD that will work on my home player, in less than a day???????
it doesnt take me 24 hours but it does take a while. for all i know there isnt another way or i would do it. so if u find one tell me.
hi use TMPGEnc plus! to get the AVI to MPEG Then use TMPGEnc DVD Author to get MPEG to .VOB and other files to burn in NERO on UDF/ISO Thx...
Hey, thanx..........i tried the Instant CD/DVD thing first anyway...........it took about 20 hours, then it didn't work prperly anyway!!!! it finally finished it's "converting" process, but i went to preview this converted movie, and it was only like a quarter of the film............lucky i didn't just burn the thing straight away.......... anyhow......i'm now using TMPGEnc Plus to convert to DVD MPEG thing..........so then i need to get TMPGEnc DVD author to convert to VOB, then burn the VOB using nero??? ok i hope this works...............by the way,TMPGEnc plus is much quicker, it's taking like a few hours to convert instead of a day!! will it take ANOTHER few hours to convert from the DVD MPEG file to VOB files???
hey, thanks..........this method works fine for me now...........i just used TMPGEnc Plus to convert to DVD PAL, then TMPGEnc DVD Author to make the DVD files, then Nero to burn............it took about 6 hours in total to do everthing, all conversions and burning............so thanks. i finally got this thing to work!!! and i tested it, it works on my home DVD player.....(it even works on my parents DVD player, which is a better quality picture, but has notoriously bad compatibility with CD-r and DVD-r discs).........one happy guy.........infact, i might actually buy the software now, cos at the moment, i did all this with trial versions......but it's good stuff, so....
Another way would be to use DVD2SVCD and CCE SP, now CCE SP is a dear program but u might get it on an auction or something like me Here is a good guide for it http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?s=4df1f7f845e18dc47371d66ecc5950ec&threadid=61142 The quality from CCE SP is just amazing
I have DVD's backed up onto my computer as an AVI file, but when I try to use TMPGEnc to convert it to a mpeg I get an error message when I try to add the video and audio saying that the avi file is unsupported. Can anyone help me out or reccomend a new program? Thanks!
You must not have the appropriate codec or directshow filter installed. DL a little prog called Gspot. Open the AVI in this app, and it will analyze the file and tell you whether or not it is properly provided for by your system. If this program finds a missing filter or codec, you should just be able to install the necessary support (via Nimo codec pack or something similar) and be off. There really isn't anything better than TMPEnc in terms of ease-of-use vs quality (IMHO), but as Dela mentioned, DVD2SVCD is a possible alternative.
Also, you do realise that even though you converted your DVD to AVI, when you convert back, it will not be as good a quality DVD as the original. More like SVCD or something.
