I hate to start this thread with so many like it.. but they havn't helped yet. So here is my situation: I downloaded an .avi file, but it wouldn't play on my laptop. I've tried Media Player Classic and VLC media player, both without success. I installed the latest version of Klite and it still didn't work. I checked it with gspot, and that program claimed that it wasn't an avi file. Now here's the kicker.. The video plays fine using VLC on my desktop. (I'd watch it on my desktop, but the monitor is off-color due to a bad cord atm) Desktop is running XP and my laptop is running Vista. Any help getting this to run on my laptop would be greatly appreciated.
I don't know if I can help you but, I guess I can give it a try. Do both your desktop and your laptop have the same version of VLC on them? Also, is it the same exact .avi file you are using on both of the computers?
my desktop has an older version of VLC, but I figured it would only matter the other way around, if my laptop version was outdated. And it is the same video, although I am copying it over from my desktop a second time just in case..
while copying the 2nd time.. once it was finished i got the error "xvidcore.dll not found" never noticed that the first time.. but sounds like the problem..
yeah, check that out. and i have read from some other people that the older versions of vlc were giving them less problems than new ones. do you know anything about using .mkv files?
dont know much about .mkv files, except that vlc can generally play them. I don't know if i even have any tho ^_^
Researching that xvidcore.dll problem.. i reinstalled xvid... and it works.. i dont get it because thats the first thing i tried.. but i'm not going to question it.. i'll just accept that its working now.
