AVI files no longer play. Now they are only sound & Black Screen

    Well, whats happened is that my AVI files that i have had for months ,are no longer showing video just sound. Since yesterday i press play and i get a black screen and sound...and i just don't get it, my mpeg's still play normally....its just all the AVI files.....its like something came along and decided to erase the images from my AVI's, i need to watch Strangers with Candy otherwise i will die.....someone please help me out....

    get gpsot from this site and check to see do you need to download/re-install a codec to play the video!

    Same happened to me. Sounds like your missing either a specific xvid codec or a divx codec. First thing to do is download the newer Klite codec pack (version 2.*, i think). If that doesnt work find the dixv 4.12 codec. One of those should fix the problem.

    the k-lite codec pack is good but i still dont bother with codec packs, gspotjust tells you exactly what codec you need so then its as easy as download and no problem! :)

    I don't bother with codec packs either. Use Gspot to find which codec its suppose to use. If its something exotic that would take time to find that change the fourcc code to something else and it will usually work. I am sure afterdawn must have a fourcc code changer program. I got mine from divx homepage.

    Actually I have never got a file that required a hard to get codec! I guess I'm lucky!

    the only codec i haven't found is the divx3 low-motion, but changing the fourcc code worked so it didn't matter. ?Jurassic Park movie?

    That's actually refering to the mpeg4 3.11 alpha codec!
