i dont know much i can copy straight dvds - originals and copying that with no problems- I have a ASUS DVD-R drive - and erm i find converting AVI to mpeg using Mainconcept and even TMPGEnc always comes up with an error msg near the end of the film while encoding and while using TMPGenc seems to take like 12hrs , then an error at the end is not good !- also i tried to convert that file even with the error to VOBS with TMPGEnc author and write with nero - but get problems with the sound being delayed and also quality is poor and the actuall film breaks up so i cant watch it -
ive downloaded 3 films and havent been able to get one onto dvd-
but like i said i can copy dvds perfect - that is simple - its d/l films and getting onto dvd is hard and complecated

I do this all the Time with downloaded Movies and I use the same method for Backing up DVD"s cuz I can get better Quality and More than one movie on a DVD-R...There can Be a Bunch of reasons why you would get an error while encodeing, It would have helped if you said what the error was?? OK..Did you First decompress the audio Before Encodeing these Files?? This is Very Important because many encoders do not like Compressed audio in AVI files they are encodeing to Mpeg especially with VBR Mp3 which is used with most Downloaded movies these days..You can decompress the audio useing Virtual dub but I find it better to use a Program called "Decompress.exe" if you can"t find it PM me with your e-mail address and I will send it to you...And another reason why you might get errors is that downloaded files are Often Corrupted or have corrupted Frames which Makes them difficult to encode...And Make sure that you are Encodeing the AVI files to the Same Frame rate cuz Most Mpeg encoders can not Properly convert Frame rates so if the Frame rate is 29.976fps then you have to make a Mpeg with that Frame rate and if the Frame rate is 23.976fps then you will have to enable the 3:2 Pulldown Option to make the 23.976fps file 29.976fps without Ruining the File.....well good Luck
