Just wondering if there is a tutorial to place my avi files onto a DVD so i can play them on my dvd player at my home. Thanks
Fatazzcav, Doing this on the Mac is actually easier than most of the PC tools I've used and read about here in this forum. Here's how: 1. Download ffmpeg v.9t and install it per the instructions. You now have a worldclass media conversion tool on your system. 2. Follow the ffmpeg instructions for doing conversations. Drag your AVIs to the 'source' window and then use the presets for the output you want. You can tweak the settings anyway you desire. If you have a dual CPU mac, make sure you select the 'Dual CPU' under the 'thread' option in 'Options'. 3. ffmpeg will generate a burnable image file for going direct to DVD if you want. It will also generate mpeg2 and audio files if you want to author in another program. 4. I use ffmpeg to generate the elementary files and a mux'd .mpg file and then I use Toast Titanium 7 for authoring. Depending on your needs, Toast 7 will let you convert AVIs directly to DVD by itself, but I find ffmpeg gives me more options and control over the quality. Not sure of your expertise, but let me know if you need more info. Good luck! -mw
thank you so much. I have a PowerMac G5 dual 2.5 at my home. I was not aware that you can use Toast 7 to burn avi directly to DVD. I have toast 7 as well. I will try both solutions and see what works best for me. I appreciate your time. Thanks
You're welcome. Just remember, if your AVI has AC3 audio in it, there is a bug in Quicktime 7.0.2 that means you won't get audio in a Toast 7 only conversion. What video and audio format is your AVI file? -m
And how can I install ffmpeg? [bold]Rather, I'm looking for a program that will let me convert AVI to DVD...is this ffmpeg what I need? I'd prefer something in the price range of, er...nothing.
Fata: You can go to Quicktime and check movie properties after openning the movie file. That should tell you the formats. Also you can drag and drop the file into the source window of ffmpegX and it will tell you the details. 74: Just do a google search on ffmpegX. You can download for free and try it for free. Make sure you get version .9t. If you like it you should make a $$ contribution to the author. Just follow the install instructions. Its easy and powerful. It will do the AVI to DVD conversion for you. -mw
Hey, that's fantastic! When does it run out? Also, if I wanna put a TV show on the DVD, is it possible to get more than one episode on a disc?
ffmpegX is shareware so you don't 'have to' pay. However, it's a killer app that does most everything you need and is MUCH more reliable and stable than anything on the PC. So I encourage you, if you use it regularly, to make a small $$ contribution the author. I usually get 3 episodes of a TV show at high quality on one DVD-RW. I convert at 4300 bit rate at standard DVD resolution 16x9 aspect. There are many settings, and it can seem overwhelming, but its pretty easy to understand once you go through the menus. Email me directly if you need help, or use the doc on the web site. Good luck.
I'd e-mail you, but I don't have your e-mail. What program do you use to burn the DVDs? How can I get more than one burned on?
