    Hi All,
Would really appreciate some help regarding this problem I have, I'm quite new to video converting so please allow the ignorance.

I would like to know which software I need for converting avi to mpv?
or any info whatsoever! Thanx in advance.

    Regards Tony

CBR = Constant Bit Rate. VBR = Variable Bit Rate.
MPV means 'mpeg video' , MPA (a.k.a. MP2 - Mpeg layer 2) means 'mpeg audio', and ususlly are M1V (MPEG-1 videos, CBR VCD movies) or M2V (MPEG-2 videos, VBR SVCD or DVD movies).
VCD are encoded 1150 kbps CBR; DVD and SVCD are encoded VBR.
The main diference between SVCD and DVD is the larger bitrate for DVD (up to 2500 kbps for SVCD, up to about 9000 VBR for DVD).
From M1V and M2V the main diference, apart the amount of bits needed, is the CBR/VBR encoding (half size doesn't correspond to half duration, for VBR files).
So, think I assume you can hear, I suppose you wanted to say 'AVI to MPG', not to MPV.

The problem is this: you must to study a little, first. Secondly, you can choose your encoder between TMPGenc, Cinema Craft Encoder, VSO and so on...

    Remember:
    - TMPGenc is the easiest (and the slowest one, when you want to make MPEG-2 movies) encoder and the most versatile one.
    - CCE is the quickest (but the most difficult to learn, because you'd better also to learn AviSynth's scrypt language) and the most expensive.
    - encoding into MPEG-2/DVD format a low-resolution movie is a waste of time and of physical space and it is never suggested, because garbage in = garbage out and encoding into VCD/1150 kbps CBR a 900 kbps AVI is often enough.

I don't know what it is best, because I still don't know what you want/can do...

    Hi aldaco12

Yes, I did mean what I said that I want to convert avi to mpv for my mp4 player its the only files it will play. I already have CCE, and tried it with no luck it converts to .mpv but no sound and fuzzy picture! I also have TMPenc, but to no avail? please please give me step by step info. Thanx aldaco12 in advance.

I admit my absolute ignorance. I suggest you to read http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=62723 .

But I insist: MPV is an extension only valid for videos (which CCE create). To have a movie, you'll need to add it a sound stream , to create a full .mp4 movie (using a suitable MP4 multiplexer).
