Just got a 1.5tb harddrive to store and play videos. I want to use my fta receiver as a media player and have to have vids in ts format to do such. What program do I use to convert them, as they are primarily in avi format?

I don't know a free converter that will convert directly to a TS (I am sure there are some, just never used one).
However, you can use for example RipBot264 and convert the AVI to an MP4 or MKV with the video/audio compliant with your player, then use TsMuxer and mux it into a TS(this part will require no re-encoding).

What are your player's requirements for audio/video codec?

Have you played any files on it before? A user's manual?

I've only used it for fta so far. there is a manual but not sure what to look for. It doesn't mention codec.
