Hi I'm a newb on this stuf and I tried to burn an avi file from the internet to a vcd using nero's newest version and the only problem I encountered was that the video and the audio wasn't in sync. the audio was about 20 sec off? Maybe I didn't use the right settings. Can You Help?

    I used a pioneer DVR-104 dvd-r/rw

first of all, did u just burn the avi file straight from when you downloaded it to the cd/dvd? if so then you need to encode it. Nero probably encoded it for you but it doesn't do a very good job you should get TMPGenc and then learn how to use it and encode it then burn it.

i am a newbie to this stuff as well..what's wrong with burning .avi files onto a cd? i tried encoding an avi file into a vcd format, but i went back to burning avi files because vcd format uses lower resolution and takes extra 200~300meg of space for encoding it.

well, if you want the cd/ dvd to be able to play on your DVD player then you're gonna have to encode it anyway, if you want better resolution go to www.kvcd.net u can download templates there taht encode your files into higher resolution vcd's.

Yes I burned it straight after I D/L it to cd. I've tried to encode it with TMPGenc but it can't reconize the avi file.(dunno why?)Is there another program other than Nero or TMPGenc that can encode it?
    Thanx for the reply anyway..

i had the same problem where TMPGenc wouldn't recognize it, you need a program called virtual dub, and you load the avi file and make sure that under the video menu "full processing mode" is selected then you go under audio and make sure that direct stream copy is selected. AFter this you go into the video menu again and you select compression and you select the divx codec that you should have, if you don't then download divx player alpha pro and install it then select the divx codec and then do file save as avi, the whole process shouldn't take too long. Once it's done select full processing mode from the audio menu and direct stream copy from teh video menu and then under compression from the audio mode select no compression PCM and then save as avi again, now you have ur file that TMPGenc will recognize.

Co problem, actually i just learned how to do all that about 3-4 days ago. So im fairly new to it, the only thing i don't like about the rencoding with virtual dub is that it makes the file size a lot bigger. anyway have a nice day.
