this comes up "error" on my dvd player
    detail =
    Format : MPEG-4 Visual
    Format profile : Advanced Simple@L5
    Format settings, BVOP : 2
    Format settings, QPel : No
Format settings, GMC : No warppoints
Format settings, Matrix : Default (H.263)
    Muxing mode : Packed bitstream
    Codec ID : XVID
    Codec ID/Hint : XviD
    ------------------------------------------------------------
I have a different avi xvid movie that does play and its detail =

    Format : MPEG-4 Visual
    Format profile : Simple@L3
    Format settings, BVOP : No
    Format settings, QPel : No
Format settings, GMC : No warppoints
Format settings, Matrix : Default (H.263)
    Codec ID : XVID
    Codec ID/Hint : XviD
    -------------------------------------------------------------

I tried re-encoding with virtualdub - but everytime the same thing.
So what do I need to change in settings for the first movie so that I can get it to the same settings as the second one ?

I think AviDemux removes the packed bitstream automatically.
No need to re-encode - leave the side menus at 'Copy' and resave.

Original on left, saved version on right. Clipboard01.

Why not try other players like VLC?

standalone dvd player?.. they can be really funky !! if it reads r/w disks save yourself some trouble and make up a disk of sample shorts in every format you can think of.. then see which ones play or don't.. then convert all your things you want to use to that format and label the disks accordingly.. at least it's not playing silly like having yuv reversed etc ;) .. I found my dvd player will play x264 files as long as the extension is .avi .. any video file.. they just need to be .avi .. even if that breaks them on the pc players !!
