I'm trying to try my first dvd burn.
I'm using the AVI2DVD program as in the tutorial here.

    http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/avi_to_dvd_avi2dvd.cfm

I can't get it to load both files. I renamed the files in windows explorer. I must be doing something wrong but just can't see it.

    Avi2DVD Step 1 - Input Settings

First thing you need to do is click the Load avi/ogm/mkv button. However, if you have your movie on two or more files, you can open them all at the same time. Lets say your first half of a movie is your CD1 and your second half is your CD2. Name the first half 'video CD1.avi' and name the second half 'Video CD2.avi'. Now Avi2DVD will load in both halves. Don't worry, this also works for subtitles files. If you only have one file, then you don't need to rename, just load it in.

    Hello.

This is an old program. There are better options available for conversion.

    VSO's ConvertXtoDVD: http://www.vso-software.fr/products/convert_x_to_dvd/
    DVD Copy 4 Platinum: http://www.intervideo.com/jsp/InterVideoDVDCopy_Profile.jsp
    TMPGEnc Express 3: http://tmpgenc.pegasys-inc.com/en/product/te3xp.html
    DVD Santa: http://www.dvdsanta.com/
    The Film Machine: http://members.home.nl/thefilmmachine/
    NeroVision: http://ww2.nero.com/enu/index.html

All have free trials. DVD Santa and ConvertX watermark the trial version output. ConvertX is very popular and IIRC is the successor to AVI2DVD.
