Newest edition of Avi2DVD has an extra tab on and I don't know if any new guide. The program has been problematic even with the help of the guide. The guide does not follow up on obvious errors that occur such as the "couldn't execute the application" error during the encoding process. In this it is like many books on Linux: "Look, see how easy it is" then never describe any error messages at all or how to correct them. The newest version as of my writing is 0.3.4beta. I've been to the truthfm forum which hosts the program. But I still doen't know if it's an error I'm making or a broken program. The avi I want to burn to dvd is a simple one: one video stream and one audio stream listed (from another program) as 128 kbps, 44,100 stereo. Does this program work for anyone? If so, please write a guide.
Try VSO (free version) instead: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_encoders/vso_divxtodvd_free.cfm Good luck!
I had VSO fired up and running yesterday but I ran into a problem making a burn with Nero. What happened was, the burn ran and went too fast getting done in just a few minutes. The resulting disk was unusable. How can I avoid these problems? Also the other peculiar thing was there is a box to tick that says burn with Copy to DVD which I have, but when the process started the tick box greyed out and went blank so Copy2DVD did not kick in. These are very frustrating problems and they waste media and time. And they make me crabby. OTOH I have no assurance that paying for a retail program will not result in these same failures and frustrations.
