After trimming commercials out of a TiVo program, I find four files have been created:

    Program.mpg
    Program.qs
    Program.stat
    Program.stat.fake

I've been deleting the last three files.

But am wondering if they might be needed. Should I be burning them onto the DVD along with the dot mpg file?

(Yes, I'm betraying my ignorance. All I want to do is edit out commercials and burn a disk with the resulting file that looks as good as the original. And having trouble doing even that.)

You only need the .mpg to burn your DVD.

The others are temp files that the app uses to keep track of things like keyframes length framerate and other variables. Just about every transcoding capable app makes similar files.. but they are usually hidden in ~tmp directories where you don't see them until they eat up all your space or cause "file exists" errors.
