1st, I tried resistering at the avidemux forum and never got an email confirm. Some questions... When I drag a movie into avidemux and I get the "index not up to date or packed bit stream detected do you want to unpack it", do I need to comply with either of these processes to create a better dvd? Reason I ask...sometimes I bypass these and burn anyway and everything is fine, then other times the quality maybe poor and audi/video may not be in sync. (cbr is alway present) I once unpacked a bitstream and saved to desktop, to practice. Then I tried opened dvdflick and it would not recognize what I had saved. Any help would be appreciated.
Usually those 2 boxes are to fix a file which is "broken".. that normally means it's been cropped to fit a certain size without regard to keyframes. Unfortunately avidemux is a very powerful tool that doesn't do your thinking for you. It takes some attempts to get the results you want. dvd-flick will accept mpeg1/2 and avi but avidemux will output many many more video formats than that (with patching it will make x264 mkv's) so research what kind of output you need before saving... I normally convert odd or broken avi to mpeg2 with ac3 audio then drop that in my dvd authoring application. Under the "auto" menu tab there should be "dvd" which will do all the settings for you.
So, what I gather then, is that when i drap a movie into this and i get either message, that something will not turn out correctly, which is most generally my case. Is this tab you speak of in dvdflick, or in avidemux? I'm not sitting at my home pc. Also, which program contains ac3? Sorry but am taking mental notes off what you're telling me. I thank you.

Varnull, so then is mpeg-2 ac3? Under auto, I selected the dvd button and is not saving to pc. I didn't see where I had this option. The author said he like to save to use ac3. He states to do, auto and then dvd, but then he mentions he likes ac3. Just another learning curve for me. Thank you.
That's my guide.. I threw it together last night. Testing on a windoze machine earlier the process is the same.. and it auto selects something else for audio codec.. ac3 (FFm) is available from the pull down menu. No point burning the resulting file to disk with imgburn right off.. It needs a proper dvd structure.. which is where dvd author or dvd flick comes in As avidemux has already done the transcoding into a sutiable format all the authoring application needs to do then is chop the resulting file up and lay it out in a dvd structure ready for burning
when i saved to desktop, it produced 4 files... lotm at 2.18 gig lotm.stat 2.72 gig lotm.qs 1.39 kb lotm.stat.fake 21.5 mb sorry but do not know what to do with this. i was under the impressiong it was going to give me something to open with dvdflick so i could start my burn process. uh, i just noticed something. prior to starting, i did not make any selection from the left side menues...audio, video & format. i just went up to auto, hit dvd and saved. was i supposed to make my selections out of these 3? when it was finished, the video now desplays dvd(lavc), and format says mpeg 4ps (A+V) sorry for the trouble and thx for the help.
dunno.. I have NO experience with the windoze version. mine made 3 files.. one big mpg file and 2 sort of small temp files... you are using the gtk version not the qt+ version? vlc will play the mpeg file.. test it and if it works then dump it in dvd flick
any of those files will not open. it's just me not doing something right. kids are driving me insane.....(-:
have you tried vlc player?.. it should be happy with the big mpg file.. when you load the file and auto dvd on the left.. where it says audio.. look at the pulldown by the ogg-lavc or whatever it selects.... then hit the save icon. Usually doze installs the qt4 and gtk versions.. don't know why.. linux only has one.. and mine is 2.8 something.
