AVS video editor 3.1 problem

I have AVS Video Editor 3.1 and i have a video of my families and I holiday and i wish to edit it with this particular software. Now when I start the software and runs normaly then when i try and import the video it goes to the importing window when you name what you want the clips to be called and where you want them but before it starts importing it says "abnormal program termination" then i click ok and the program just disapears i try booting the software up again same outcome how might i fix this problem
