How can I backup a Region 1 DVD that the size is more than 5GB to be able to play on a Region 3 player.

I have a disc that will work in US and want it to play in Malaysia on a Region 3 only player, so how can I do this?

Use DVD Shrink with AnyDVD to rip to the hard drive and allow Shrink to compress to fit on a DVD5 disk. This will make the disk region free and will play on any and all players.

If the above doesn't work then rip with DVD Decrypter with AnyDVD and then apply Shrink to the ripped files or iso image file.

Set the target size in DVD Shrink to "Custom" and then set the size as 4300 or 4350.

    AnyDVD (free trial) http://www.slysoft.com
    DVD Shrink (free) http://www.afterdawn.com/software/
    DVD Decrypter (free) http://www.afterdawn.com/software/

Yes, compressing an entire DVD9 into a DVD5 will affect video quality, depending on the amount of compression required. You could just choose to take the main title and forgo any extras by reauthoring in Shrink, making compression unnecessary if the main title is less then 4.3gb. Since the original is only 5GB, the loss of quality will be minimal even if Shrinking the entire disk.
