    Think I'm getting this slowly.

Would I be correct in thinking that in order to make backups I will need 2 separate DVD drives? One which is flashed with KREON FIRMWARE V0.81 (to read the disk to the PC hard drive) and then a dual layer drive in which to burn the image ?

    Thanks

Yes, that would be the easiest way to back up original discs. The reason being that the Samsung drive with kreon firmware is the only drive i know that reads original discs, and it is only a DVD-Rom drive. So that is why you need the second drive to be a dual layer burner.

SH-D162C if you have IDE connection (big grey ribbon cable)
SH-D163A for SATA (smaller red or blue cable)
