Hi, Am trying to backup my dvds for the first time, they are mostly bigger than 4.7 gb. As these have css copy protection, after taking advice from your site i used dvd decrypter to rip them to my hard drive, I also removed the region as well. Since then I have wasted 5 dvd-rs trying to write it to dvd-r, using different burning programs. Firstly I used Nero recode, this worked, but on the main movie there was no sound at all, but there was on the title screens. Errors were displayed when using clone dvd and pinnacle, soIm stuck I can't work out the problem, why is it not writing properly or why is there no sound?????? Please Help, would be much appriciated, thank you, meadsy13 p.s. i played the dvd discs on both my dvd drive and dvd player
meadsy, no1.-use rw's til u get the hang of it, no coasters. Since u have nero, get DVD43(free) this will de-encrypt running in the background. Then go to recode and u should be ok. Make sure u go to nero homepage and download powerpacks 1 and 2, if u haven't already and all updates. Also u must register recode and nve2 and express seperately using your nero purchase #. good luck! _X_X_X_X_X_[small] [bold]GO VOLS![/bold]........Dell Media4600, XP home,Pentium 4 @2.80GHz/800Mz, 512MB, 280 HD w/8MB, 17" flat panel, AIO-A920, 8x DVD-ROM, integrated 5.1 audio, HP dc4000, Plextor PX-708UF[/small]
Or I would recommend using DVD Shrink(free). It will allow the user to select compression level for each video track separately to obtain the desired disc size (which is usually below 4.38GB). It has a built-in decrypter, so there is no need to rip the DVD files on HDD first. The software is capable of producing either an ISO image of the ripped DVD, or a VIDEO_TS folder for further processing, viewing or burning. _X_X_X_X_X_[small] D'OH!!!!!!!!!!![/small]
volcom, unfortunately any re-authoring in shrink destroys menu function which is why I prefer running anydvd and going straight into recode. Recode allows re-authoring and maintains menu function, also, I think it has a better picture with large compression. It also allows individual item compression like shrink with a preview slider like shrink and is extremely user-friendly. Everything is laid out in menus, movie, and special features. In shrink you must view each one and decide what it is. I think shrink is an excellent freeware and it's how I got my start. However, as I have said many times, to each his own...... _X_X_X_X_X_[small] [bold]GO VOLS![/bold]........Dell Media4600, XP home,Pentium 4 @2.80GHz/800Mz, 512MB, 280 HD w/8MB, 17" flat panel, AIO-A920, 8x DVD-ROM, integrated 5.1 audio, HP dc4000, Plextor PX-708UF[/small]
meadsy13, how u doin mate. try this exact process. Download the new version of shrink from here http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_shrink.cfm 1) put your disc to be backed up in the drive. wait till it is "picked up" by the drive 2) start up shrink 3) open disc. then click o.k 4) the program will automatically analyse disc and compress. 5) for the first few attempts till you get the hang of it DONT UNCLICK ANYTHING ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE. ******* Also if you are using DTS shrink usually unchecks this automatically to save space so make sure its checked if you're into DTS.******** 6) got to backup 7) choose destination and make sure everything is in order. 8) click ok and then go have a cold beer. try not to multitask like surfing the net and you may find the picture quality is a little better. 9) the file will be compressed and backed up to the file you specified earlier, so you can save it and IF IT DOESN'T WORK you can then load it up again in shrink (open file and go to target file) so you don't need to mess about. the actual encryption will be faster this time as you dont need to compress. hope this helps mate. its a scaled down version of the guide on this site but it's all you really need to do until you get the hang of it. any problems try this. http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvd9_to_dvdr_with_dvd_shrink.cfm its like bigorange says, on this site you'll find each to their own. depending on your setup different folks have different solutions. I think I'm one of the only people who have had no problems with (dare I say it) DVD X copy platinum......even though I don't use it anymore cos shrink is better and free!!! let me know how you get along with this solution. hope everything is ok for ya! _X_X_X_X_X_[small]1.4 Mhz AMD, 512 Mb RAM, 120 Gb HD,WinFast 2000 XP Expert Video Card, DVD X-Copy Platinum, TMPGEnc Plus, TMPGEnc DVD Author, DVD decrypter, DVD2One130, Cucusoft AVI to DVD converter, DVD Shrink WinDVD Recorder 5,Nero 6 and Mainconcept MPEG encoder[/small]
