I'm trying to back up some of the games I have so my five year old can swap discs etc without damaging originals. I've been using craxtion and Nero 6 but both times I've done this the disk is unreadable. I've been informed that RW discs wont work full stop, so is it a case of just wasting +R discs??!! Are there any spercific brand that have been successfull? I know all xbox drives may be slightly different but I cant keep on wasting discs. -R discs dont work at all do they? Thanks for any advice
CD-R discs don't work at all but CD-RW works great but it could be the brand you're using. Memorex works great both for CD-RW as for DVD+R and DVD+RW
Cheers Mike, Yeah I would have thought DVD RW's would have worked but I was told they wouldn't. Its only a cheap brand of discs I have used so far (luckily!!) so I will try Memorex one's. Any other useful tips for me anyone??
Hey...I tried using TDK DVD-R and they all come up as unknown when I put them in...could this be my problem? I always use DVD-R but do they not work correctly? I have an executor 2.2 lite and I think I am FTP correctly. Then I use the NERO 6/UDF mode and check the box on the xbox. Sound right? Then when I make copies they do not run in my Xbox...they simply say unknown. Should I be using DVD+R or DVD+RW??
my memorex dvd-r worked fine until this damn X3 FTP server 0.1a alpha screen came up. still tryin to work this out. but when it worked my dvd-r worked fine
I put the game in and go straight to FTP from the D drive...I do not save the game on the actual Xbox hard drive...is this right?
Yes thats right unless you obviously want to put it on the hard drive if you have installed a larger drive. Its just peeving me off that I'm wasting discs testing this. Follow the instruction to the tee. Will try it with an RW tomorrow tho.
Sounds like you are doing it right, nero sometimes gives people problems, might I make a sugesstion and try record now max. Here is a link to a free 30 day trial, many polls have been taken, and although nero dosent trouble everyone, it is a much better burning program for xbox backups. http://downloads.stompinc.com/files/stpRNM450e_STPD.exe So in short, ftp to your xbox using Flash FXP (excellent xbox ftp client) copy the contents of the D: to your pc. Make your iso using Craxtion (Remember to patch the game for media flags if you have a older bios). Once your have your iso complete, just launch record now max, select the image tab on top, choose your recorder, pick your iso that you just made, and hit burn (1x-2x recommended), no settings to change. Try it and see if it helps! Oh and by the way I have a phillips dvd rom in my xbox and I can read any cd-r, cd-wr that I have tried (not too many games fit on a cd but the ones that I do have work just fine), and since I only have a dvd+r/+rw burner i make all my backups on either Imation dvd+r and Verbatim dvd+r (you want a good dark purple dye on the dvd)some of the lighter purple bottoms dont work real good )imo, and i havent had any bad burns. Still cant find a dvd+rw that works on my xbox yet
I use Memorex DVD+RWs and they work fine. For a permanent backup copy I use Fuji DVD+Rs. I have used Verbatim DVD+Rs without any problem at all either. I use Nero to make my DVDs in UDF mode with that DVD-Video compatibility for Xbox checked.
Thanks to all. My biggest problem and the reason I wanted to try Nero is the fact that I cannot for the life of me create an ISO. When I download Craxtion it comes with like four file extensions and I do not know which one to open first. Don't know how to install the damn thing to get it working.
If you update your mod chip to the latest BIOS you won't have a need for Craxtion. I have yet to use that thing and I am playing backups just fine and that includes the newer games.
I think I have narrowed this down. I think my problem is my bios. I will look on the site but do you know how to update my bios on my system? I have a 2.2 lite with Evox installed Thanks!!
Craxtion is easy to install. First make sure download the program Craxtion 3.1. You will unzip the file and extract them to a file on your pc (make a folder and call it craxtion) Next download the ocx files and do the same (just extract all the files to the same folder as before), and lastly download the run time files and do the same. From there all you should have to do is launch the program. One more thing, if you have gdfimage.exe you can also stick that file in your craxtion folder and select to use it for making your iso files, there is setting in the options that allows you to switch and use gdfimage instead of the bundled isox that it comes with.
Please help anyone, I am trying to backup my games right onto DVD-Rs, I cannot find the right software to use. I tried using CDRWIN but keep getting an error with reading the track, I checked the disc no problem. Please anyone know where or what good program to and how to use it. Thank you very much
I use Nero 6 and make a DVD UDF disc with the DVD-Video compatibility for Xbox checkbox checked. Ialso use Nero to burn an ISO or xISO Xbox game images and it works great for me.
I dont know anyone who has successfully used DVD-R as media. From what I've heard it is either a +R or exceptionally a +RW but this doesnt seem to have worked with many. Unfortunately his means coasters unless you strike lucky straight away!
ShadoweX Di=o you mind writing down the steps in using nero to make the backup. The setting wise. Thanks
On my xbox (I presume this is the case with all) dvd+r discs wont work, I use dvd-r and dvd+rw both work fine (I have no idea about dvd-rw I havent used them)
Sorry for the late reply. To answer your question lee500, there isn't much to the settings that I use in Nero. I just start a DVD-UDF compilation. Then under the UDF tab I check the "Force DVD-Video compatibility mode" check box. Then when I can select the files, I just dump them in the DVD like it is on the original.
djboogie, dvd+r work fine in lots of xboxes. It is probally the drive that you have in yours that dosen't like the media. I have a philips dvd drive in my xbox and all my dvd+r work just fine. Funny how mine will not read any dvd+rw though.
