backing up windows xp

    I think my hard drive is taking a dump. I got this laptop for a hundred bucks and the hard drive is making noises. Im gonna go buy a hard drive but I dont wanna copy everything on this comp I just want windows.

    Can any 1 tell me how to back up just windows. Im probably gonna use a flash drive.

    To backup windows you need imaging software. There are many free ones macrium reflect/ paragon drivebackup express/ driveimage xml. With this software just do an image backup of your c: partition, this will backup everything on your c: partition.
    There is no way to backup only windows, you can only backup everything in c: drive which will include windows plus everything else. But this backup will be "bootable" when you restore it on a new hard drive.

    There are some laptops that require you to do a "reverse clone" to get a proper restoration.

    The true image forums are the best place to learn about doing image backups. The basic problems encounter there apply to almost all imaging software.
