I'm new here and new with a Nero 6 suite bundled with a Memorex DVD writer. So far all has gone well but I have a question about the BackItUp app. I have been doing backups for years with Retrospect Pro for Windows.

BackItUp has two kinds of backups -- a plain Backup that is oriented towards backing up files and a Drive Backup that backs up drives and partitions. The drive backup seems similar to Norton Ghost but it's hard to tell since Drive Backup isn't described in the BackItUp manual or the on-line help.

Can Drive Backup create a backup (on CDs, for example) of the system disc that can be restored even if the operating system is not bootable?

    Thanks,
    Larry

Thanks for the link but that's for Nero 7 and BackItUp ver 2. The Nero 6 suite I have has a version 1.x BackItUp which doesn't have the "Create a Bootable Disk" item on the Tools menu. And the words "boot" or "bootable" do not appear in the on-line help.

I suppose it's possible that the first CD in the disk backup set would be bootable (as it is for Nero 7). I'd have to do a full drive backup to find out though. That's a lot of time and CDs. I'll think about it and do some more research.

As I mentioned the Nero 6 I have is a Memorex OEM bundle and it can be stripped of some features. But the on-line help screen shots don't even show the Drive Backup wizards and icons. Kind of flaky.

If I fall in love with Nero then an upgrade to Nero 7 would be another possibility. I've been using Roxio Easy Creator up till I started trying out Nero.

    Cheers,
    Larry
