I am using Sid Meiers Railroads! and tried to use Sonic RecordNow! to make an exact bit for bit copy so I can keep the original undamaged.
The copy went well but it will not play. Error message that I am using a copy and must use original disc.
How can I make a copy I can play?
I am not very good with complicated instructions. Is there a program I can use that has the ease of something like DVDFab6?
    Thanks.
    Carl

Thank you but Game Jackal will not work on this game.
Do you have any other suggestions?

a little google would answer this.. because it's against the rules to talk about a "no-cd" crack or patch.

tried a google and all I got was warez and such sites.

I am not trying to crack or hack or anything else, which is illegal. I just want to make a copy of my game so when the cd dies I still have it to play.

The companies that say buy another copy are completely nuts..... I should not have to buy another copy of something I already paid my hard earned dollar to purchace legally!

Kids are very hard on cd's.

If you have a site I could go to safely, please let me know.

    Thanks you for your consideration.

Yep, definitely did that, but we weren't talking about a no-cd crack or patch.

Ok, then you need to find out which protection the game has as there are many. In order to make a backup of a PC game you need to be able to right the protection back to the backup. Alcohol 120% used to be the program to do this but as far as I know it no longer updates the protection selections. So it may not be possible at this time.

But check out Alcohol 120% and do some research as making 1:1 backups of PC games is not as easy as it used to be.

BTW, you cannot make a backup of a PC game with any ol' regular burning program.

yes we were talking about a "no-cd" crack or patch.. because it will insist to play the game the original disk is run you will NEED a crack or patch to use ANY copy you make. The media checks are embedded in the compiled machine code making up the game dll's or executables.. and to reverse engineer those takes more skill than most people have. Knowledge of the various protection methods and how to identify their signatures is very protected and guarded know how. You can learn this stuff.. but only by getting involved with reverse engineering and security groups. They don't adfmit people who know nothing.. so first step is learn how to code, then learn how to decompile applications.. and then just maybe if you have something one of the scene cracking groups wants.. like a gigabit dedicated internet connection and your own ftp space... they might let you in on the secret. This knowledge isn't public domain for a reason.. people who get caught go to jail..

I wasn't . . . I was talking about an exact copy of a game, so that I can use it later if the original goes belly-up. Which I have done many times with earlier games and they've played without any cracks or patch's.

If you made backups before then why are you asking how to do it?

Simple - the newer games have more protection.

I want to thank everyone for letting me know about these things. I do not wish to do anything illegal.

I believe that any company has a right to protect their investment in their software or product. But they should be REQUIRED to replace forever any damaged media if they employ a copying protection scheme.

How about we work on that so I do not have to break the law to protect MY investment.

    Again, thanks for your help.

Many thanks for that, the helpful input here is appreciated.

Will look into Alcohol 120 and let you know how I get on with it. It's needed for various games, but the actual game at the moment to do, is Company of Heroes.

    Any help appreciated.

    No, I did not.

The only way I could find is an illegal "no-cd crack" which we cannot talk about in these forums and I will not use.

    Merry Christmas to all.
