Backup of Installed Software

Hi all,

I recently acquired a computer from work which they were going to throw out. The good thing is that there is some very useful software installed on it, but I am unsure how I could transfer the installed program back onto a single CD to then use on other computers. Is it even possible?

I don't think it is, unless you manage to obtain the setup file of the program.

 

Simple answer NO....

The only programs you can copy like that is basicall old DOS programs.

As these add registery keys and DLL files, so to use on another computer you would need the installer as TM said.

Try it and see. It depends on if they have custom registry entries and/or DLLs. I know many of the programs I use can just be copied over to another pc by copying the entire directory. I just recently rebuilt a pc and copied Opera, Eudora, mIRC, and several other programs over to the new pc without reinstalling them. Eudora did require me to type my registration code in again the first time I ran it.
Many did require reinstallation from the original cds like Microsoft Office or Visio.
