I have backed up a copy of Polar Express to my hard drive and have burned a DVD 9, but it won't play on my Phillips DVD player. I get a "no disc" message. The disc will play great on my PC though (Win DVD and Nero). What is up with this??? I have 1Click, DVD Cloner, DVD43, DVD decrypter and DVD Fab Decrypter. What is the magic combination?
Many standalone players will not recognize burned DL media unless booktyped as DVD-ROM. Did you use +R DL media and was it booktyped to DVD-ROM? If not setup to booktype, let us know your burner brand, model, and firmware version and we'll try to help.
Try using Shrink and burn to a 4.7GB DVD disk. Worked fine for me! Maybe your player does not like the media. It may not like any Double layer disk or possibly just the brand you have. Try a 4.7GB blank before blaming the software.
I have a Sony DRU 700A burner with OEM firmware. I am not totally illiterate, but need a little help here on "booktype". What do I need to do?
Firmware for your burner is here: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1817 This is a rebadged Lite-On 832 abd you can likely use its firmware as well. To enable the booktyping for +R media use the Booktype Utility (scroll down the page) at the site below: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=83441 Set the +R DL media type to DVD-ROM. You can also set +R and +RW media types to DVD-ROM booktypes as well. You can also set the booktype with DVD Decrypter as follows: 1. Place DVD Decrypter in ISO Write Mode. 2. Right click on the burner name in the Destination menu. 3. Select Change Book Type.... 4. Click the Liteon tab 5. In the Change For: menu, select Drive (for DVD +R Media) 6. In the New Setting: menu select DVD-ROM. 7. Click OK 8. Repeat for +R and +RW media if desired. DVD Decrypter is best for making DL backups as follows: 1. Set the Mode to ISO Read and rip an iso file to the hard drive. 2. Set the Mode to ISO Write, select the MDS file asociated with the ripped iso file, and burn. You can check whether a burned disk is booktyped with DVD Identifer. See the download link in my signature below. Once the booktype is set it remains unless changed again unless you select the temporary booktype which you don't want to do. The proof of booktyping should be your player's recognition of the burned disk. It is imperative to have the latest firmware for successful DL burning. The firmware version is the numbers, letters, or combo of both after the burner name in DVD Decrypter, Nero, or DVD Identifier. Nero doesn't do the best job with DL media so stick with DVD Decrypter if that works for you.
Sorry for not getting back to all of you on this. After my last entry last night I was tired and went to bed. Had to work today and, of course, that took up some time. Is it just me, or does everyone else find that work takes a big and annoying chunk out of their free time. In any case, I am going to try the remedies you have suggested and will get back to you all after I, hopefully, get a clean backup DVD. Thanks to all!!!!!!!!
Sucess!!!! I have a backup DVD. Thanks for the help on this. I will try to be of as much assistance to others after I gain some more experience.
