    Ok Im using windows 2000 pro. Looking for ideas to back up my entire harddrive incase of major crash or virus. Yes I have plenty of antivirus programs use nortons 2009 and avg pro. Nortons ghost 2003 I have but not real sure I trust?? Still new at it and trying to figure it out. All I want is a way to wipe my harddrive and restore it compltley. Simply put a restore disk. I hate goback and software of that nature. Tried Drive imagae. Had major crash and It simply failed so I had to start All over. Preciate your imput. Thanks..........

    This might prove interesting. I just ordered Norton Ghost off ebay today and would like to hear opinions of it.

    @imjusttim
    Well after using Ghost from versions 5 upto 2003 i can easily say I like it.

    I know a lot of people who dont and would reccomend drive image, but as you have had a problem with it then Ghost is a GREAT alternative.

    Unfortunately its not the quickest process if you have a big image, but i have used it both at work and home and it saves a lot of time and trouble if used well.

    If you have it, use it, you can back up to HDD or other media such as CD/DVD, usb Drives etc.

    @Nephilim
    I personally think you have made a good purchase, price dependant of course :)
    as a package, its great.

    Cheers

    DMW, cheers for the comment :) it was $20 for the suite.

    Does Ghost use any compression or is it a straight file size for file size image? I'm debating whether to put the image on DVD, my storage HD or both.

    Well $20 sounds good for Ghost. When you create the image it asks you what level of compression you want. I have tried all levels with great success.
    a+ proggy.

    Thank God our parents never had a restore for us! And don't try to tell you all were perfect little angels either :)

    Now that I think about it, it wouldn't have worked for me anyhow - I was born screwed up.
