As long as you don't play your backups online you should be fine,

but then again it doesn't really matter if your offline or on, flags can still happen, thus the moment you hook up your Xbox the mighty hammer of Thor, may smite thee.

just use abgx and you wont have to worry either way plus dont play games early. I have before but only 1-2 days early since copies get leaked from stores and gamestop employees rent out their own stock i figure if its stealthed then its ok

wouldnt a bad firmware flash not even play a disc? and if so then why would you hook it up to the net anyway.

Thanks. I'll have to download ABGX. I haven't tried making backups of any of my games yet.
EDIT: another quick question: I just acquired GH Metallica and it has the .dvd file in the folder already. Does that mean it's been "stealthed" already?

just dont say you downloaded but acquired

.dvd file can be incorrect abgx will check and correct or create a dvd file if there is none. dont ever take the word for it if it says it is stealthed already. scanning with abgx takes 5 mins or less so it is worth it.

    Oops, my bad. Fixed.
First thing I'll do is get abgx when I get home.

This question is for people who have experience with playing backups online and who have been banned at least once and who know other people who have been banned. From your experience and what you have heard of other's experiences, what would be the expected time of lasting on xbox live using backups that have been ripped to near perfection? Is there a less chance of getting banned when using an older xbox or is there nothing that would indicate this? Thanks.

no one is 100% sure on how the automated banning process works. outside of the fact that your system generates "flags" for events it finds suspicious or out of the normal. right now the consensus is that its the burned games that get you banned not the firmware. even if your game is properly stealthed, and all of the crcs check out there is always a chance and who knows what m$ will think of next to catch modders. the best advice we can give to help prolong your stay on xbl is run ever iso threw abgx. and DO NOT download games because they could be ripped improperly. or have intentional bad files (some people believe certain isos are released in a attempt to catch modded systems)

other than that read this thread. this has been discussed already a lot. hope that helps

Though if games are downloaded and then verified with abgx, they should be as good as ripping them yourself right?

There is never a guarantee, but should be. Just don't play them before they are released and make sure they always verify.

Does abgx just test whether a game is a good rip or does it fix it as well if it verifies that the game is not a good rip? Is there anyway to test the credibility of a download just by downloading one of the files?
Does firmware 1.6 work with poorly ripped games? I'm not concerned with been banned from xbox live.

yes abgx does check the game game if it is good rip and it is capable of fixing it, unless the acutal game data crc is currupt (wich agbx will also tell you).

I have a quick question; in the OP it says:

You want a guarantee... there is one and ONLY one. Get a second console, leave it unmodded, and use it to play your originals online.

This is exactly what I plan on doing. I have a modded Arcade (with on board memory) console and a normal, un-modded Pro console. However, can I use the hard drive from the Pro on both 360's, so that I have my profile, savegames etc etc?

Or will there be modded info saved on the harddrive from when I use it with the modded 360 so that MS can see that and ban the unmodded 360 when I'm using that while playing online?

*face to the mutha f'n palm*

did you read the thread or search for it at all?

it's still not 100% safe but it's commonly accepted that it is safe to swap HD's from modded consoles and regular consoles and not get banned. still... the only 100% way is to keep your un-modded completely seperate from your modded.

    thanks for the reply.

And I did search for it, but couldn't find it quickly so I thought I'd ask.

I'm still kinda new to all this, so sorry if I came across as a know-nothing noob :)
