My official ps2 discs play just fine. But my backups skip during the cutscenes. If there were a problem with the laser scanner, it seems like it would skip while playing official ps2 discs as well, but it doesn’t. Do I need to make new back ups? They are old, after all. The actual gameplay on my back ups run just fine, it’s just the cut scenes that skip. By the way, my import back ups won’t load at all (even though I am using swap magic software). Also, I should point out I am using a PS2 slim. Is there some other problem I’m missing here? Thank you to whoever takes the time to read this. Oh, and I forgot to mention I’m using a flip top lid cover & free mcboot
I make them myself, they all used to play just fine. Since the time I made this post, I went ahead and ordered a new laser for my ps2
There is something called disc rot, where the metal layer deteriorates and the disc becomes unreadable. The rate of rot depends on the age, storage, and the quality of your DVD media. If your issues are being caused by disc rot then a new laser won't fix the issue. There is no fix for disc rot except complete replacement.
Yup, you are quite correct, Sophocles. I went out and bought a pack of DVD-rs for the first time in ages. I did a test run of one already and the cut scene at the beginning of the game did not skip at all. Oh well I guess at least I will have a new laser on standby if my old whenever burns out. Anyway, thanks for taking an interest, everyone.
Everyone is glad to help. Don't make this the only reason to drop by, because your experience could help someone else. I'm glad that things worked out.
Get a phat & have all the games on internal hdd using free mcb. There is a monetary outlay in the beginning. Cost of ps2 or 2;sata hdd;ethernet adapter which includes sata adapter
Yeah, I think I’m good to go now, but thank you so much for taking an interest in my little situation I have a flip top lid, free mcboot, swap magic elf file…now that I’ve made new backups, everything’s been playing just fine. And one of theses days, I may even get around to looking into freedvdboot
