My backups have started NOT playing again and I am getting frustrated. I thought I had a good combination of programs, DVD Player (cheapo cyberhome that will play "as Scuba pete stated: anything except heavily cheesed pizza) and my Ridata G04 4x blanks. Well, I had a few occasions, where my Go4s had problems, but mostly they were all good. Since they stopped making them, I switched to G05s and 8x. Now I am having problems again. NONE of my last four backups will play in my computer (ONLY my stand alone cyberhome) so therefore, I can not make a backup of a backup NOR EVEN play it in on my computer's player. Now, this weekend, I used my once trusty combo set of programs and attempted to copy "War of the Worlds"....No go. Will not play, and even messes up on the cyber home. Menu does not come up, have to man handle it to play. Picture freezes every couple seconds etc. So, I think.......perhaps Shrink will work better than clonedvd2. With Any dvd running in background, I burn another backup using shrink and decryption. Then I decide to verify the burn and I get I/O errors, and decrypter can not verify the burn. Still will not play in my computer, and still has same problems on my cyber home. Now, I can not believe the problem is with my equipment as they have served me faithfully for a long time, I am thinking these Ridata G05's are plain CRAP! I do not think its the programs I am using, because they are considered among the best. This leaves the blanks. I have purchased some taiyo-yuden's, as folks in this forum talk about them as if they are the most perfect thing since peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (link provided) www.meritline.com/taiyo-yuden-8x-dvd-r-white-inkjet-printable.html. Once I get these in, I will attempt my backups a third time and see if a more quality disc will help my problems. Does anyone else have a better explanation or advice for my situation. Not being able to play my backups is getting to be a headache.
Are you following any type of guide to make sure that your process is correct? There are guides for both sets of programs in my signature. Make sure that you burn a 4x not max, else you can have the issues that you state. Use the guide, step by step and it will work! Booktype DVD+R media to DVD-ROM if possible with your drive and that will make the backups even more compatible.
Do not take this the wrong way 9mmruger1, I am not being hard to deal with here, and I am certainly not ungrateful for your input, but this stuff is not rocket science. AnyDVD simply "runs" in the background. It uses all default options. Not much one can do to go wrong here. CloneDVD2 is all "one" click also. That is what I do. Clone the DVD. I do have it set to burn ONLY at 4x, which even THAT is not necessary, as that is as fast as my burner will burn anyway. There is really nothing that can to wrong with these two programs, honestly. Even so, I get the same results using Shrink and Anydvd. Shrink was set up correctly using ScubaPete's guidance. Two programs, same results. Has to be something else, other than backup programs. I use DVD-R, so it can not be booktyping. Thanks again, what does anyone else think?
Certainly no offense taken, I understand the frustration of a BU not responding correctly. I also realize that it is not rocket science. I did two backups in the last two days with CloneDVD2 and AnyDVD, and two backups with AnyDVD and Decrypter and Shrink and imgburn, and 1 backup with DVDdecrypter, shrink and imgburn. All were flawless. 3 different methods. There must be something that is going on that is giving you the grief. You stated that your burner will only burn at 4x. This is an older burner? When did you update firmware for it last? Is is possible to post a burn log of the burn that is not playing on your PC or player? Just asking so that I/we here at AD can try to assist you.
Since you say your backups worked before using a certain combination, and the only thing that got changed is the media, I think you answered your own question. Unless you try another brand and see if this fixes the problem you won't know for sure. You say you burn at 4x I suppose you could try a slower burn speed and see if this works, or even try a faster one. You may make some more coasters but they aren't working for you anyway.
My Burner is an Iomega and is not even two years old yet. I have not attempted a firmware upgrade as of yet, and not sure about the burn report unless CloneDVD has an option to turn this on or off (have never micro managed all of the options, as I have never needed to. Perhaps i will check on turning this report on and see what happens.
well, i would first like to suggest getting a firmware update for your Iomega drive, will need the exact model number in order to point you in the right direction...or you could simply find it yourself here: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_search.php you, yourself need to figure out what is the model number of your drive before a proper firmware update can be done...common sense i guess... lastly, as of late, there seems to be a general HATRED for the RitekG05s...am i the ONLY one on here, with the exception of Rotary, as i know he uses RitekG05s with GREAT success, much like i was having with mine too... but, it seems like people are bashing the RitekG05s left and right...nothing but issues coming out of people's ears using these discs... if the firmware doesn't resolve the write strategies for this particular media, and if you INSIST on using the dash format (dvd-r), then i would suggest trying Taiyo Yuden in the dvd-r format to completely RULE out the RitekG05s being the culprit...which i have noticed you have already ordered...nicely done... actually, THEY ARE since P&J sandwiches... good luck, IF you have no issues with the TYs, then the RitekG05s are the problem...but, IF you have problems with the Taiyo Yudens you ordered, then...FIRMWARE is the problem (ie...it not being up to date to handle the newer media) docTY~
Well, as best as I can tell, Iomega really doesn't produce the "SuperDVD writer" burners anymore. If you knew me, I always seem to purchase things unaware that next year they will be discontinued in two months . Anyway, I located what seems to be the firmware for my burner. Same version number, however, it was posted at a later time than when I installed my burner to begin with, SO...who knows, perhaps something in there has been updated. If my new discs have the same issues, I think I will purchase a new burner and see what happens. Any suggestions on a burner for a really good price? What about the LG's?
LGs are good better stuff would be Plextor if you can swing it, next would be BenQ. i would bet its your burner the good Plextors run about 129.00 bucks the BenQ or about 49 or 59 bucks on newegg.com but IMHO the Plextors are worth ever dime which i have. great burners plus great media makes great backups!!!!
