I am using Nero Burning ROM 6 to burn DVD files onto a Staples DVD+R blank disc. I burn the DVD folders AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS, which contains the DVD files using DVD-Video Format in Nero. I have already burned one other movie using Nero onto the same type of disc and it plays perfectly on my standalone DVD player. However, this second DVD that I am trying to burn outputs improperly. The picture jumps up and down, (it looks like bad tracking on a VHS player) on my standalone DVD player. However, this same burned disc plays perfectly on my computer (I am using WinDVD player). What is going on? Is there any encryption issue here? I don't think it is the blank media because I burned another movie previously using the same method and it plays perfectly on my standalone DVD player. I need this movie to play perfectly on my standalone DVD player. Please help. Thanks in advance.

    Hello.
Well, the difference between good and bad media is the consistency of the dye. In a spindle of 100 Verbatim DVD's, i'll have 1 coaster, normally from my own mistake. In a spindle of Staples discs, i'll consider myself lucky if i get a 50% success rate... Not only that, 12 months down the line, if you try to watch the films on those discs, you might get the picture freezing, jumping etc...

But that could also be because of the actual standalone player. Those aren't like the pc drives, they are very picky in what you give them. Some work, some don't...

So you recommend me to change the blank media? You do not think it was the Nero burning process that I described previously?

Well, there's nothing wrong with using Burning Rom, but if you're trying to just do a copy of a film, use Recode 2.

Most of those types of problem ARE media related. I don't buy Staples, Tescos or Pc Line, i buy my discs online nowadays. They might be a bit more expensive, (29p a piece)but i know for sure that i get 100% good results...

    Verbatim (Taiyo Yuden) (8x) DVD-R

I get them from here: www.svp.co.uk

What is Recode 2? I have the DVD files on my HD and I want to burn them onto blank media. This is not a direct copy of a DVD disk. The burning process that I follow is: I choose DVD-Video in Nero, copy the DVD files into the VIDEO_TS folder and burn. Will Recode 2 fix my problem? Is this in the Nero program?

Recode is program in the full version of Nero that can encode/compress a dvd to fit on a single layer DVD or will do a dual layer. You can also use it to do main movie only, remove audio tracks, put more than one dvd title on a disc etc. If you'e ever used Shrink it's like that.

I don't think Recode will fix your problem either. Your using the right option in burning rom - dvd-video. Just drag in the video_ts folder.
Your problem probably lies as permiggs said w/ the Staples media. Not made by quality manufacturers w/ quality dye. Use the Verbs or made in Japan Fuji, Sony or Maxell. These use azo dye which is a superior dye and very compatible w/ most burners and players.
Staples, Best Buy etc usually have weekly sales on one of these. 50 for 14.99.
In the mean time with these discs try reducing your burn speed a notch or 2x and make sure your burners firmware is up to date.
To check who made those Staples ones (have a blank in the burner) go to NeroToolKit>InfoTool>disc tab. This will give you the manifacturer.
